Our Black Robed Masters

It looks like with the Supreme Court set to meet again (sans Renquist) one case they will hear will have lasting impact on you and your children.

It is the case involving private property rights. That is, can government take your house to put up a bigger house or a Wal~Mart?

They can already take it for a road, but if the Supreme Court finds in favor of the government, then they can take your property for other private uses.

A house facing a busy intersection could be turned over to an oil company seeking to open a gas station, they say. A middle-income neighborhood could be demolished to make way for a Wal-Mart or Costco. Private homes may not be the only target. Tax-exempt churches and service organizations like the Elks Club or Moose Lodge could be seized to make room for taxpaying businesses, these critics say.

"The Supreme Court is really faced with a choice here," says Ms. Berliner, who is a member of the legal team representing the New London homeowners. "If they affirm the Connecticut Supreme Court, they will fundamentally change the meaning of property ownership for everyone in the United States."

We'll keep an eye on this. In the meantime, I think I'm going to read Mark Levin's book.
