Sometimes when you hear a story, it sparks a flame, a light goes off and you see things in a clearer light.
Take for instance this story, of a fomer High School valedictorian who was arrested for plotting to kill President Bush.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A former Virginia high school valedictorian who had been detained in Saudi Arabia as a suspected terrorist was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush (news - web sites) and with supporting the al-Qaida terrorist network.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court but did not enter a plea. He contended that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.
When I first heard the headline the last naive part of me expected him to be named Chad Joeseph McGinty or something. Instead it's Ahmed Omar Abu Ali. Which in islamofascist means Jim Smith. Why would I be surprised that Omar was in his name?
I guess he wasn't Irish afterall.
