Mayor Street signs bill.

Mayor Street passed the anti-smoking bill. I guess freedom of association and private property rights don't count for a hill of beans in this town.

Philadelphia is going smoke-free.

Mayor Street's spokesman this morning confirmed that the mayor has signed legislation prohibiting smoking from almost all Philadelphia bars and restaurants, ending weeks of speculation about whether the proposed ban would fall victim to City Hall politics.

The irony of your anger, of course, is that most places in america that still allow smoking treat cigar smokers as socal lepers to be shuned to the out-of-doors anyway.

I wouldn't classify my comments as angry. Philadelphia is a unique place. A lot of smokers, and small bars in south philly are all over the place. The average blue collar guy who wants to sit, drink a Yuengling, and watch the Eagles play will be most hurt by this law.

And regarding cigars, Philly is one of the most cigar friendly cities I've been to. There are numerous cigar bars, and a lot of bars are pretty friendly to cigar smokers.

I am always amazed that people are doing that and other people are allowing it.
