I just got word of a tasty new beverage from Coke. It's Diet Coke, sweetened with Splenda.
ATLANTA, February 7, 2005 – Coca-Cola North America today announced that it will introduce Diet Coke Sweetened with Splenda® in the United States in the second quarter of 2005. Diet Coke Sweetened with Splenda will be the seventh addition to the Diet Coke family, which includes the flagship Diet Coke, America’s #1 diet soft drink, plus Caffeine Free Diet Coke, Diet Coke with Lime, Diet Coke with Lemon, Diet Cherry Coke, and Diet Vanilla Coke. “Many consumers told us they liked the taste of Splenda and wanted a Splenda-sweetened option under the Diet Coke brand, so we’re obliging them,” said Dan Dillon, Jr., vice president, Diet Portfolio, Coca-Cola North America. “The millions of current Diet Coke devotees across America shouldn’t be concerned – the Diet Coke they love will stay just as it is.”

Thank you for your timely response. I was meaningful when I sent the question, I figured I would get a canned answer that didn't answer my question and you did not disappoint me in that respect.
As to the answer I got it sounds like no research other than " they liked the taste" was ever even looked into. What other research did COKE do that indicated other benifits Splenda had to offer ??
Research might have come up with this : Sugar does not help in weight loss nor does it help when you enjoy a COKE and easily maintain your target weight. The way a body processes food and drink is determined by the food and drink the body takes in.
When a diet drink is sweetened with any other sweetener COKE uses ( other than Splenda ) the body still sees it as Sugar and contunues to process as normal, even if all other food and drinks have accomodated a weight loss program or a weight maintaining program,
BUT when Splenda is used the body does not see it as sugar and a change is made within the way the body processes the food and drink intake , the body changes from storing to burning . When buring takes place instead of storing the body looses weight.
BUT only if caffine is not present. Why would a company like Coke not do the research to provide a DIET drink that Accomodates a weight loss or weight maintaining diet ?????
Just to save you time. The word Diet isn't a restriction you place your self when it comes to food and drink BUT simpliy what you eat and drink.
Why would COKE create a good tasting product with Splenda that defeats the underlining benifit Spendla offers by adding Caffine??
