Hmm. Not much from the media today about a very good thing which happened.
First in Arabic and then in English, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said in his inaugural address to the Iraqi people last Tuesday that "I would like to record our profound gratitude and appreciation to the U.S.-led international coalition, which has made great sacrifices for the liberation of Iraq."
In his own remarks, President Ghazi al-Yawer said: "Before I end my speech, I would like us to remember our martyrs who fell in defense of freedom and honor, as well as our friends who fell in the battle for the liberation of Iraq."
Not grateful my ass....
And then:
The U.N. Security Council (search) on Wednesday unanimously voted for a U.S. resolution backing the transfer of sovereignty to Iraq's new government, which President Bush deemed a "catalyst for change."
The resolution details the powers and the limitations of the new interim Iraqi government that will assume power on June 30. It authorizes the U.S.-led multinational force to remain in Iraq to help ensure security but gives the Iraqi government the right to ask the force to leave at any time.
Why don't we hear all this trumpted from the alphabet networks? Why isn't this good news all around? This is what we've wanted all along, an "international coalition".
Also, I paid $1.89 for gas today. Whoo hoo!!
